Job Summary
The Technical Underwriter provides expert technical underwriting expertise and guidance to underwriters within their domain, typically a regional, medium to large-sized country market segment. They pre-emptively consider emerging risks and trends and inform underwriting strategy. They are well-known for their knowledge of (a) line(s) of business.
Job Accountabilities - Key Accountabilities
They will actively drive the implementation of strategies and risk appetite changes and manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure technical standards are adhered to and changes are implemented correctly. They will lead high impact initiatives concerning operational transformation, define assurance activities development of technical underwriting guidelines, best practices and various projects and monitor and control allocated human and material resources. They will handle the most complex queries and Requests for Empowerment within their authority and will provide expert support to underwriters. They will assist with approval of terms and conditions and Line of Business or cross line of business issues, enabling Underwriters to write profitable business. They will diagnose and develop cost-effective proposals to solve complex and ambiguous problems, make recommendations on strategic direction and identify innovative opportunities and risks associated with changes in the external environment including the creation of new products.
